Coin Collecting a National Hobby

Coin collecting has been a hobby for Americans for many, many years.  Once a hobby for the rich only, many coin books are filled with US silver coins.  Silver coins are collected not only for their mint date but also for the intrinsic silver bullion value if they were melted down.  Our Michigan store stocks thousands of US silver coins, all for sale at a reasonable price with guaranteed next day shipping.

This week we received some wonderful Morgan silver dollars.  Many consider these coins to be the most popular coin to collect.  These large, heavy, silver-laden coins are a collector's treasure. There's almost an ounce of the precious metal in each coin!  The design dates back to the Old West, when silver miners dug deep into mountainsides to mine the silver to make them.

Morgan Silver Dollars were minted continuously from 1878 until 1904. By the early 1900s the silver bullion supply ran out. The era of the Silver Dollar had come to an end. By this time, most Americans preferred to use paper money instead of carrying around heavy Silver Dollars. In fact, Silver Dollars circulated widely only in the sparsely-populated West, but in the rest of the country they were stockpiled in banks and U.S. Treasury Department vaults.
